The Loot Key

A certification mark granted to products that meet the Loot Standard. Earning the Key is the entry point to everything Loot is building.

The Loot Key is product-level. A brand can have one Keyed product and ten that do not qualify. The Key certifies the product, not the company.

Earning it requires written ingredient confirmation across every product component, a founder interview, and a review against every clause of the Standard.

What carrying the Loot Key gives a brand

The Key is the mark, but the platform around it is the offer. Brands that meet the Standard become part of an ongoing editorial and commercial program — not a one-time approval.

The mark A consumer recognition mark that can be displayed on digital storefronts and wholesale materials. Brands are welcome to display the Key on product, though it is not required.

Editorial features Eligibility for Meet The Maker founder profiles, product spotlights in The Journal, and original social content distributed to Loot's audience.
Loot Delivered Consideration for inclusion in the monthly curated subscription box — Loot's primary discovery channel for new makers.
Website placement Feature placement across The Journal, the home page, and the public Loot Key directory launching August 2026.
The network, as it grows First consideration for the retailer network and other Loot platform initiatives as they launch. The Key is the entry point.

A note. Carrying the Loot Key is a requirement for shelf placement, inclusion in Loot Delivered, and editorial features. It does not guarantee them. Editorial and merchandising decisions are made separately.

How it works

Apply through the form below. There is no cost to apply, and no cost in the first year if the Key is granted. Within five business days, a member of the Loot team will reach out to begin the ingredient review.

If the product meets the Standard, the Key is granted. If not, you receive a written explanation of what was found and what would need to change.

Annual renewal $500 for brands under $500K in annual revenue. $1,200 for brands above. Renewal begins year two. The founding cohort is grandfathered into the lower tier for life.
