The Loot Standard
What we won't carry
Our published ingredient standard for grocery. Every product in the Loot Key Registry has gone through Loot’s product-level review and cleared the full Standard.
Industrial & engineered sweeteners
No high-fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, agave, maltodextrin, dextrose or glucose syrups, brown rice syrup, tapioca syrup, yacon syrup, artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, allulose, or isolated stevia and monk fruit sweeteners.
Industrially refined & chemically processed oils
No canola, soybean, corn, refined sunflower or safflower, grapeseed, rice bran, cottonseed, refined palm, or RBD coconut oil. Chemical-solvent extraction, hydrogenation, interesterification and unverified refining do not clear the Standard.
Undisclosed or engineered flavor systems
No “natural flavors,” artificial flavors, synthetic vanillin, ethyl vanillin, natural smoke flavoring, yeast extract used as a flavor enhancer, or hydrolyzed flavor-enhancing systems.
Gums, emulsifiers & engineered texture
Loot is gum-free. Xanthan, guar, locust bean, gellan, carrageenan, agar, modified food starches, added lecithins, mono- and diglycerides, polysorbates and industrial cellulose derivatives are excluded.
Synthetic preservatives & nitrate curing
No BHA, BHT, TBHQ, EDTA, benzoates, sorbates, propionates, sulfites, added citric acid, or added nitrate/nitrite curing systems — including celery-, beet-, chard- or other vegetable-derived curing agents.
Synthetic & nontransparent color
No artificial dyes, caramel color, titanium dioxide, carmine or cochineal as an isolated additive, or vague color catch-alls. Named food-derived colors may be accepted when their source, processing and carriers are disclosed and compliant.
Industrial protein isolates & hydrolyzed proteins
No chemically or solvent-intensively processed protein isolates, texturized vegetable protein, or hydrolyzed proteins used as industrial flavor enhancers. Protein concentrates are reviewed by source and process rather than by name alone.
Treated flours & industrial fillers
No enriched, bromated, bleached or chemically treated flour. Industrial anti-caking agents and fillers such as calcium silicate, aluminosilicates, sodium ferrocyanide, microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate are excluded.
Synthetic fortification
No isolated vitamins and minerals added primarily to engineer a fortified nutrition profile. Nutrients coming from real foods — and certain straightforward mineral or electrolyte additions — are treated differently.
Chemical processing
No hexane or other chemical-solvent extraction, chemical bleaching, high-heat industrial oil refining, PPO almond treatment, or methylene chloride and ethyl acetate decaffeination.
